U.S. Patent Number 6,802,898: Method of “processing fly ash by grinding to the desired size distribution range gives a 100% yield of fly ash for utilization in high quality concrete and mortar.”
The Flyanic technology was developed by the New Jersey Institute of Technology involving years of research and development with cooperation from energy and cement companies. The result of this R&D effort was the discovery that using a vertical stirred media mill with specific sizes of media and operating in a compressed bed mode produced a consistently in-specification ASTM C-618 quality fly ash. What was more surprising about the findings was that the energy input per ton of output was a small fraction of the conventional expanded bed mode. Also surprising was the narrow distribution of particle sizes producing a highly controllable process for desirable fly ash. The process uses commercially proven stirred media mills that are scalable and reliable. Flyanic, in coordination with a selected manufacturer, can arrange a sustained demonstration of the technology at a truckload scale with a production rate of approximately 1+ ton per hour.
